Self-pay Medical Scheme
From April 1, 2025 to August 31, 2027
About The Scheme
The University has made arrangement with two of the existing outside panel doctors to offer a Self-pay Medical Scheme with an aim to provide an additional option for staff, retirees and their family members in receiving medical treatment outside the campus. Eligible members (see Eligibility below) shall be able to receive medical treatment from these outside panel doctors which provide self-pay medical services including GP consultation, specialist consultation and Chinese medicine consultation, on preferential rates. This additional option shall offer the eligible staff members with more flexibility and shall supplement the existing services provided by the University Health Service.
Eligibility
This self-pay medical scheme is open to:
(a) Staff# eligible for primary care at the UHS and their immediate family;
(b) Retirees# eligible for primary care at the UHS and their immediate family;
(c) Departed staff# on fixed-term contract who have reached the age of 60 and have served the University for more than 10 consecutive years, and their immediate family*.
#HKU staff and retirees only, not staff or retirees of subsidiary companies, e.g. HKU SPACE
*Immediate family refers to spouse and children, irrespective of whether they are defined as dependent children by the University.
Services and Charges
User is required to pay the charges directly to the clinic after the consultation. The services provided by the outside panel doctors under this scheme and the relevant charges are listed below:

@ For staff and dependants who are eligible for the Outside Panel Doctors Scheme, they only need to contribute $65 towards GP consultations at QHMS and $60 at UMP. Details of the Outside Panel Doctors Scheme can be viewed at https://rewards.hku.hk/mb/opds/
*Referral by a registered doctor is required.
How to make use of the Scheme?
Prior application is not required. The University will enrol you and your dependents into the Scheme. Eligible members who would like to use the Scheme should make a medical appointment directly with the clinics under the Scheme.
Eligibility Verification
Staff members: Present HKU Staff Card
Spouse and children: Quote the employee ID and produce valid identification document, e.g. HKID card.
Former staff members, their spouses and children: Quote the employee ID and produce valid identification document, e.g. HKID card.

For UMP: Eligible members should make use of the UMP e-Card App as a means to verify their identity at the clinic.
The UMP eCard App will be available for HKU members from April 1, 2025 onwards. |

Please note the University’s Facilities Access Card IS NOT ACCEPTED as an identity verification method.
List of Clinics
It is not required to apply for the Scheme in advance. Eligible members who would like to use the Scheme should make a medical appointment directly with the clinics under the three panels. Staff members should present the HKU Staff Card for identification whereas their eligible dependants should quote the employee ID and produce valid identification document, e.g. HKID card.
