About The Plan
The University has arranged with AIA to offer staff members the AIA Top-Up Medical Insurance Plan. The voluntary top-up medical insurance plan offers colleagues and/or their dependents the option of obtaining, at their expense, additional medical coverage to supplement the University’s Group Medical Insurance Plan at discounted rates.
Important points before enrolment:
(1) For members under the 2025/26 AXA Top-Up Medical Insurance Scheme, there is NO auto-renewal and a brand-new enrolment must be submitted.
(2) Coverage (Only applicable to those enrolling in the October 2026 window) : To ensure a seamless transition from the previous top-up coverage,
coverage under the AIA Top-up Plan will take effect retrospectively from 1 September 2026, subject to successful enrolment and acceptance by AIA.
The policy period will run from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027.
(3) Pre-existing conditions shall be covered after a 12-month waiting period in the AIA Top-up Plan. Membership in the previous 2025/26 AXA Top-Up
Medical Insurance Scheme member will also be counted towards the 12-month period.
(4) The top-up plan options available to each member depend on member’s existing group medical insurance coverage. Existing members of Group Plan 1
may select Top-up Plan 01V or 02V, while members of Group Plan 2 may select Top-up Plan 02V.
(5) Premiums are accounted for the entire academic year. No refunds will be made for mid-year exit from the Scheme.
(6) Please review your selection carefully before confirming it, as no changes can be made once the selection has been confirmed.
Eligibility
This top-up medical insurance plan is open to:

| Children | Aged 14 days – 18 years old, or below 23 years if in full-time education |
Note:
(1) Staff and dependents must enrol together. Dependents include spouses and dependent children.
(2) Newly-wed spouse/ new-born children should be enrolled within 30 days from the date of marriage/birth.

* Please input your top-up plan policy number as you complete the HKU AIA Group Medical Insurance Scheme claim form.
Note :
(1) The top-up plan can ONLY be enrolled by this link. AIA+ App is NOT supported.
(2) Enrolment in Group Medical Insurance Plan must be completed prior to enrolling in Top-up Medical Insurance Plan.
(3) If you are unable to view your dependent records after logging into the AIA website, please access to the Portal to verify if your dependent information
is accurate and up to date. If it is not, kindly update your dependent records on the Portal, and AIA will be notified accordingly.
Application Deadline
- New staff members must enrol within one month from receiving AIA welcome email. Late application will not be accepted. The next open enrolment period regardless of one’s employment start date will be within the month of September in a new academic year.
- If there are any updates to your dependent status, please ensure your dependents are enrolled in the Top-up Medical Insurance Plan without delay.
Additional Individual Insurance For Current Staff, Leavers and Retirees
During your university service or upon cessation of hospitalization coverage as you depart from the University, you and your dependents may also enrol into AIA’s individual policy – StepUp Medical Protection Plan 2, for extended coverage.
