Catastrophic Insurance

The Policy

The University has delegated BUPA to provide all appointees (excluding dependents) eligible for hospitalisation benefits with catastrophic insurance. Purchased by the University, the catastrophic insurance underwritten by BUPA covers medical expenses over the current annual maximum reimbursable limit of $400,000 under SMBS (but not dependants) who are diagnosed with serious illnesses including all cancers (malignancies) and brain tumours (excluding carcinoma-in-situ), organ transplants and ultra-operations, etc. The additional benefits coverage ranges from $750,000 for Plan 1, $500,000 for Plan 2, and $250,000 for Plan 3, subject to 90% reimbursement and a deductible of $100,000 which may be covered under the SMBS as appropriate. Members may transfer to Bupa’s individual plan to ensure continued medical coverage upon cessation of their hospitalization coverage at the University.
